Once Homeless, This Veteran Is Back on Her Feet, Thanks to You.
“I felt that God put it on my heart to serve my country.”
That’s why Wanda Morrow joined the Army. It was in 2001 when she felt the call. She joined as a PFC E2 and left the Army seven years later as a Specialist E4, having served in Wiesbaden, Germany, Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C., and Fort Rucker in Alabama.
Throughout her Army career, she worked in the chaplain’s office, taking care of things before, during, and after services, and counseling soldiers. “In Germany, the soldiers coming back from deployment had a lot of issues,” Wanda says. “They needed someone to talk to.”
Wanda served with honor during those years. She received two Good Conduct medals, a National Defense Service medal, a Global War Service medal, an Army Service ribbon, and an Overseas Service ribbon.
But after the Army, things changed. She found herself unemployed and homeless. “It takes a while,” Wanda says, “to get used to being a civilian.” Struggling to survive, she went to a local shelter, where she lived and began taking classes in nursing.
Today, she’s working as a nurse’s aide, back on her feet, and ready to move into her own apartment, thanks to you. Because of your support, Wanda received money for the first month’s rent. “Thank God for HonorBound,” Wanda says. “If it wasn’t for HonorBound, I wouldn’t be moving into my new apartment. I’m truly grateful.”
