A Fighter, An Artist, And Your Generosity

Earlier this year our team received a referral for a Navy veteran in need of tools to start her own nail care business. We were inspired by her and even took a trip to Philadelphia, PA to meet with her. Nothing could have prepared us for meeting Marilyn Morales; her words are true, her voice is powerful, and she is a fighter. We are honored to tell your story, Marilyn…

She served Honorably in the Navy for 4 years. “It’s the best job I’ve ever had,” she explains. Marilyn put everything on the line for her country, providing critical signaling codes to alert and inform her comrades. “It’s scary…but I’d do it any day of the week and twice on Sundays for the United States of America.” But when she separated from service, she found herself in hard times. Marilyn was diagnosed with cancer, and to make things worse, she needed to separate herself from a turbulent domestic life at home. She left home for Philadelphia with no money, no job, and no family nearby. She had nothing but $100 and her car. Marilyn couch surfed for months, leaning on friends to pull her through the dark time…

Through her perseverance she was able to find a local organization to assist her with securing a home for herself. Marilyn was ready to work, and she even got a license for nail care. Things seemed to be looking up, but Marilyn had no tools to start her new job!

When we heard Marilyn’s story we immediately stepped in, providing her with all the tools and supplies necessary to start her own nail care business. Now Marilyn can go to work and provide for herself and is finding peace and stability in her life.

After her selfless service to our country, Marilyn got the fresh start she deserves.

“A Year’s Not Far Away”

We are delighted to be partnering with Army veteran and musician J.L. Ortiz! We’ve been working hard in the studio to create a song to be released this Veterans Day on November 11th. The song tells the story of J.L.’s year of active duty service and portrays the emotional experiences of soldiers. The song, “A Year’s Not Far Away,” explores the pain of missing loved ones at home, as well as the sacrifices made by service members to protect our country and our freedoms. HonorBound hopes that the song will inspire people to get more involved in veterans’ issues, and to say “Thank You” to those who served. Stay tuned for the big music video release!
